In fiscal year (FY) 2022, through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Department of Homeland Security is providing $185 million to address cybersecurity risks and cybersecurity threats to information systems owned or operated by, or on behalf of, state, local and territorial governments. The goal of SLCGP is to help states, local governments, rural areas, and territories address cybersecurity risks and cybersecurity threats to information systems.

Department of Homeland Security Notice of SLCGP Funding Opportunity

The FY 2022 SLCGP aligns with the 2020-2024 DHS Strategic Plan by helping DHS achieve Goal 3: Secure Cyberspace and Critical Infrastructure, Objective 3.3. Assess and Counter Evolving Cybersecurity Risks. The FY 2022 SLCGP also supports the 2022-2026 FEMA Strategic Plan which outlines a bold vision and three ambitious goals, including Goal 3: Promote and Sustain a Ready FEMA and Prepared Nation, Objective 3.2: Posture FEMA to meet current and emergent threats.

  3. Contact the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) at [email protected] to report a threat or request incident response resources or technical assistance related to cyber threats.
  4. Utilize the CISA Incident Reporting System https://us-cert.cisa.gov/forms/report . The CISA incident reporting system provides a secure web-enabled means of reporting computer security incidents to CISA. This system assists analysts in providing timely handling of your security incidents as well as the ability to conduct improved analysis. If you would like to report a computer security incident, please complete the form (link above). Please provide as much information as you can to answer the questions to allow CISA to understand your incident.
Cisa cybersecurity guidance
  1. Fix the known security flaws in software. Check the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog for software used by your organization and, if listed, update the software to the latest version according to the vendor’s instructions.
  2. Implement multifactor authentication (MFA). Use multifactor authentication where possible.
  3. Halt bad practicesTake immediate steps to: (1) replace end-of-life software products that no longer receive software updates; (2) replace any system or products that rely on known/default/unchangeable passwords; and (3) adopt MFA.
  4. Sign up for CISA’s Cyber Hygiene Vulnerability Scanning. Register for this service by emailing [email protected].
